The Dignity for All Students Act: Supporting a Positive School Climate presented by Elizabeth Mastro, Director of Special Projects at the NYS Center for School Safety at Ulster BOCES
You may have heard that a New York State law intended to protect students from acts of discrimination and harassment in schools will be in effect July 1, 2012. In fact, you may have heard this bill, which was signed into law September 13, 2010, referred to as "the anti-bullying law." This is not accurate - the intent of the Dignity for All Students Act (Dignity Act) is to provide a learning environment free of discrimination or harassment. Bullying behavior may be the manifestation of  larger problems of discrimination and harassment that the Act seeks to prevent, but the Dignity Act is not just an anti-bullying law.   This presentation will assist you in supporting a positive climate that is safe for all students and will explain the Act in greater detail.

1:30 pm - 3 pm
Thriving with HIV presented by Brandon Griewank

Even before he was diagnosed as being HIV positive, Brandon was a supporter of HIV/AIDS awareness and sexual education. He speaks freely about his experiences with doctors, partners, and family members as he learns to live with this disease without letting it become who he is. Brandon Griewank is not a doctor, he's a guy with HIV who knows that talking about it is the best way to educate people.
